I've Been Nominated!

My really cool, amazing writer friend, Marisa Reichardt and author of the Young Adultish blog, nominated me for the Liebster Award that is given to bloggers with under 200 followers who should have more followers.  Super sweet of her - thank you, Marisa!

To claim my award, I have to do a few things:
1. Share 11 random facts about myself
2. Answer 11 questions that Marisa asked of me
3. Nominate 11 more blogs with 200 followers or less

So, here are my 11 random facts:

1. I am a twin (fraternal).
2. I have to smell the pages in a book every time I open it.
3. I didn't have my first sip of alcohol until I was 21.
4. I skipped the fourth grade.
5. I met my first love at 17 and married him (at 24).
6. I could live on chips and salsa.
7. My favorite vegetable is kale.
8. Sometimes, I crave bok choy.
9. I couldn't live without dark chocolate and red wine.
10. My favorite TV show is Glee.
11. My dream job as a kid was to be Angela Bauer from Who's The Boss.  I got it at age 27 and lived the dream for 3 years before shifting my career to become a marketing consultant.

Here are some blogs that I think should have more followers.  If these bloggers want to keep nominations flowing, more power to them, but as Marisa says, it's not a chain letter, so no pressure!

Easier Simpler Better
Fit Soul Nutrition
The Good Fashionista
The Writing Nut
Vegan Ascent

And finally, my 11 questions to the bloggers I've nominated.

1. Why do you blog?
2. What is your favorite quote?
3. What do you do when you are not writing?
4. What is your definition of the good life?
5. What is your favorite children's book?
6. What is your favorite recipe to bake/cook?
7. Where is your favorite place to write?
8. Do you have a writing ritual?
9. What are you currently reading?
10. What is your dream job?
11. What's the best compliment you could get?

Here are my answers to Marisa's questions.

1. What made you want to start a blog? My passion for good living took over.  I had the idea for VeegMama while on vacation two years ago and I couldn't let go of it.  I love to write and thought it would be a great channel for me to share the joy I feel.

2. Did you like high school?  Why or why not?  I LOVED high school.  I was an outcast and nerd my entire elementary and junior high school careers (skipping a grade does not make one cool).  Add to the fact that I wore braces and glasses...not so cute either.  So, when I entered high school -  the summer after my braces came off, I got contact lenses, and I made the cheerleading squad, things started to get a lot more fun.  I had friends and activities - lots of good times.

3. How does reading a good book make you feel?  Like I have gone to another world.  I am swept away, inspired and appreciative of what a good book can do for the soul.

4. How does a good writing session make you feel?  Is there no greater reward as a writer?  It's been a good day when a writing session goes well.  I feel like I can exhale and check "accomplished something" next to my to do list.  It also makes me feel like maybe I could be good at this writer thing!

5. Name one song that instantly takes you back to a memory and describe that memory.  "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler.  I am dancing at my wedding with my dad.  We're both crying.  Time stands still and it is as if we are the only ones in the room.  We exchange words to each other about how much we love each other.  I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.

6.  Quote one of your favorite lines of writing - a book, a poem or a song.  "You can't always get what you want.  But if you try real hard, you just might find, you get what you need." - The Rolling Stones

7. What is your favorite place to write?  On my laptop in my living room, looking out at the ocean.

8. What moment in your life do you wish you could relive?  Walking with my dad across the football field at my senior homecoming game.  Making the homecoming court was a big deal to me because it meant my dad got to walk me across the field.  I'd love to see his face again at that moment.

9. What music do you listen to when you write?  I don't - it makes it too loud to hear my inner voices!

10. What are your top three favorite books of all time?  Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, and Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

11. What are your top three favorite books of 2012? I only have two from 2012.  I am always a little behind the release dates of books...Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling
